Iran exports over 1,000 tons of medicinal plants

During the five months (March 21-August 22) of this Iranian year (started March 21, 2019), Iran exported 1,450 tons of various medicinal plants, said Tarahhom Behzad, general director for rangelands at Forests, Range and Watershed Management Organization of Iran, Trend reports referring to IRNA.

Behzad added that most medicinal plants in Iran are exported as raw materials and the technology for their processing is limited.

He noted that more than 53 companies in Iran are producing and selling medicinal plants.

He added that over 2,500 species of medicinal plants were discovered in Iran and only 170 of them received investments.

“This Iranian year, there are plans to grow additionally 94 species of medicinal plants,” he said.
