By Elnur Baghishov - Trend:

Iran produces more than 80 percent of its food items, as stated by the Head of Iran's Food and Drug Administration (IFDA) Mohammad-Reza Shanehsaz, Trend reports referring to the Iranian Ministry of Health and Medical Education.

According to him, the country would be facing with many problems if food production would not be at this level.

He added that about $6.11 billion is being allocated for the import of the remaining 20 percent of food products.

“The potential of factories producing food products is not being put into full use. Business people in the food industry must work to fill that gap,” he noted.

Shanehsaz also said that the increase in the production of food items will create conditions for expanding exports.
