Iran's exports via its West Azerbaijan province up by 145%

In the first five months (March 21-Aug. 22, 2019) of the current Iranian year, Iran's exports via borders of its West Azerbaijan province increased by 145 percent in monetary terms, compared to the same period of the previous Iranian year, an official with West Azerbaijan Customs Administration Ahmad Barkabian said, Trend reports citing IRIB.

During the reported period, Iran, via customs of West Azerbaijan, exported over 600,000 tons of non-oil products for $769 million to various countries, Barkabian said.

However, the exports decreases by 14 percent in terms of weight, he added.

Main exported goods included light hydrocarbon oils ($78 million; 10 percent of the exports), watermelons ($44 million; 5 percent of the exports), various types of bread ($19 million; 2.4 percent of exports), and bitumen ($16 million; 2 percent of the exports), the customs official said.

He added that Iran's exports to Iraq via customs of West Azerbaijan province amounted to 411,000 tons in terms of weight and $529 million in monetary terms.

Furthermore, 125,000 tons of goods were exported to Turkey, 18,000 tons to Georgia, 8,000 tons to Azerbaijan and 4,000 tons to Pakistan, he said.

During the reported period, Iran imported 33,000 tons of goods worth $341 million via the customs of West Azerbaijan province, Barkabian said. Compared to the same period of the previous Iranian year, the imports increased by 44 percent in terms of weight and by 76 percent in monetary terms.

Main imported goods included bananas ($77 million; 22 percent of the imports), elevator gearbox ($10 million; 3 percent of the imports), spare parts for elevators ($7 million; 2 percent of the imports), and various greens ($5 million; 1.5 percent of the imports), he added.

Furthermore, 622,000 tons of goods worth $1.85 billion were transshipped via West Azerbaijan province, the customs official noted adding that the transshipment increased by 622 percent in terms of weight and by 55 percent in monetary terms.
