Iranians might reduce gasoline consumption due to rationing

TEHRAN, Iran, Nov.18

Trend:

The National Iranian Oil Products Distribution Company (NIOPDC) has predicted gasoline rationing plan will reduce the consumption by 8 to 10 percent, said Managing Director of NIOPDC.

"The following plan will reduce the fuel smuggling and black market dealership as well," Amir Vakilzadeh said, Trend reports citing TASNIM.

"There are enough gasoline reservoirs and there is no need for concerns. Also, there will be no price increase of any kind on other commodities and any violation will be confronted," the managing director added.

"The cargo transportation is mostly done with usage of diesel, so the gasoline rationing will not affect it. The implementation of gas price reform policy will not impose any costs on families," Vakilzadeh noted.

In his words, the market is currently calm and no violation has been witnessed so far.

"The gasoline rationing for school buses, driving schools and all the centers that provide specific services has been discussed at the recent market maintenance meeting," Vakilzadeh said.

Iran's high economic council of three powers has started the gasoline rationing for all vehicles on Nov. 15 when the price of a regular gasoline was increased from 10,000 rials (about 23 cents) to 15,000 rials (about 35 cents) and the monthly ration for each private car was set at 60 liters per month. Additional purchases would cost 30,000 rial (about 71 cents) per liter.
