IBRD finances Uzbekistan’s plant modernization

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Dec. 11

By Fakhri Vakilov-Trend:

Uzbekistan began subproject on modernization of production of the Chemical Precipitated Chalk Plant in Andijan, funded by the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD), Trend reports citing the press service of the Ministry of Economy and Industry of Uzbekistan.

The main objective of this subproject is to improve the production of chemical precipitated chalk with the replacement of existing equipment with modern generation equipment for the production of 21,000 tons of calcium carbonate per year.

The project cost is $2 million, $1,117 million of which account for IBRD funds.

Financing is carried out through Uzbekistan’s Hamkorbank.

Currently, the average annual energy consumption at the enterprise is 980 MWh/year. The share of energy costs in the structure of total production costs is 29 percent.

After modernization, the average annual energy consumption will be 722 MWh/ year, and the share of energy costs is 21 percent.

The plant’s raw materials (limestone) rank first in quality among the CIS countries. Laboratory studies conducted by Chinese experts showed high quality raw materials.

Chemically precipitated chalk (CPC) is considered one of the most used types of raw materials in world industry. To increase the quantity and quality of production of rubber, electrical, polymer, paint and varnish and other industries, it is necessary to develop the production of CPC, which is considered to be the main component in these processes, the report said.

Demand for these products is great, both for the domestic market and for the markets of producers of neighboring countries.
