The Government of Georgia approved the Strategy on Agriculture and Rural Development for 2021-2027, Trend reports with reference to the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia.

The strategy was developed by this ministry with the assistance of all relevant government agencies and in active cooperation with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the European Neighborhood Policy for Agriculture and Rural Development (ENPARD).

In the process of developing the strategy, interaction with stakeholders was ensured. Over the past year, several public meetings have been held, including in the regions. Farmers, entrepreneurs, representatives of the Academy of Agricultural Sciences, business sector, non-governmental organizations and civil society attended the meetings.

The Strategy on Agriculture and Rural Development of Georgia for 2021-2027 was developed on the basis of an analysis of existing relevant strategies, outcomes of the EU experience and implemented programs.

The strategy sets the priorities of the Georgian government alongside sectoral or multisectoral development directions that are related to the rural development.

Reportedly, negotiations are underway between the European Union and Georgia on the allocation of budgetary assistance under ENPARD.
