TEHRAN, Iran, Jan.21

Trend:

The process of renovating taxis and other public transport in Tehran is in progress, CEO of Tehran Taxi Organization Alireza Ghanadan told Trend.

"The process of renovation has been halted in 2017 not only in Tehran but across the country. In current Iranian year [began March 21, 2019], the issue of renovation of the taxis was followed more seriously; a number of agreements were signed with automakers, and some deals were related to changes in auto makers management," Ghanadan added.

"The management change in Tehran Municipality was another positive step, which helped to put the issue of public transport and taxis' renovation on the agenda," the CEO said.

"It was also agreed that the revenues obtained due to new traffic plan will be used for reducing pollution and renovation of the transportation fleet. In addition to the agreements with automakers, another agreement was concluded with Omid Entrepreneurship Fund so that Tehran Municipality could inject sources to the fund for the renovation," Ghanadan said.

"This cooperation will allow increasing the loan to support the renovation of each taxi by 500 million rial [about $11,900] with four-percent interest rate. The agreements helped us to remove serious obstacles and initiate the renovation," he noted.
