Kazakhstan’s KAZ Minerals talks copper, precious metals output in 2020

Kazakhstan’s KAZ Minerals company, which is one of the largest copper extracting companies is planning to extract 280,000-300,000 tons of copper in 2020, Trend reports with reference to the company.

The company’s report said that taking into consideration the fact that all processing ventures of KAZ Minerals have completely increased output and currently are operating at a rated power the future output results will be determined by first and foremost the metal content in the ore and the extraction factors. This will be relevant up to 2021 when launch of the new enrichment plant at Aktogay is planned.

“The planned volume of copper extraction in 2020 is 280,000-300,000 tons. Some 120,000-130,000 tons of the sum will account for Aktogay, 110,000-120,000 tons for Bozshakol, and 50,000 tons for East Region and Bozymchak,” the report said.

In turn, gold output in 2020 is expected to be 180,000-200,000 ounces, whereas silver output is to be up to 3 million ounces, and zinc concentrate is to be 40,000 tons in 2020.

The value of copper production by KAZ Minerals group of companies in Kazakhstan amounted to 311,400 tons of cooper in 2019, which is six percent more than in 2018 and also exceeds the planned volume of 300,000 tons.

Gold production increased by 10 percent in 2019 and amounted to 201,500 ounces. Silver production volume was 2.02 million ounces in 2019 which is more than the planned 1.8 million ounces. Annual zinc production was 38,300 tons in 2019 and is less than the planned 40,000-45,000 tons.

KAZ Minerals is the largest copper producer in Kazakhstan, focused on the mining of copper and the development of new copper mining projects in Kazakhstan and Russia.
