Trend:

Members of the Turkmen Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs have exported about 6,500 tons of tomatoes, over 3,600 tons of legumes, 76 tons of vegetables and gourds, as well as more than 180 tons of confectionery in January-February 2020, Trend reports referring to the Altyn Asyr newspaper on March 5.

During the reported period, this export volume has exceeded the supply volumes for the whole of 2017, the newspaper reports.

"Thanks to comprehensive state support and accumulated experience in agricultural production, the private agricultural producers not only fully meet the domestic market's demand, but also increase the export of crop products," the report said.

According to the indicators of the last three years, the export of agricultural products has grown by 5 times. Over this period, the total exports have exceeded 72,000 tons worth more than $68 million.

In 2019, about 40,000 tons of legumes, fresh and processed vegetables and fruits were sent to foreign markets. Nearly 300 hectares are currently allotted to greenhouse farms specialized in year-round tomato cultivation - by two times more than a year ago.

Last year, more than 21,000 tons of tomatoes worth over $23 million were exported to Afghanistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and the Russian Federation.

During the last three years, the volume of exports of legumes has grown by several dozen times. Over the same period, the export of gourds and vegetables has increased by 2,5 times, and grapes - by 7 times.
