Number of industrial enterprises in Uzbekistan increases

The number of industrial enterprises and organizations amounted to 72,600 units as of March 1, 2020, which is an increase by 19.5 percent, compared to the same period in 2019, Trend reports citing the State Statistics Committee of Uzbekistan.

The main factor of growth in the number of industrial enterprises and organizations was the increase in production in the manufacturing industry - by 19.4 percent (the share of their total number is 94.6 percent), mining and quarrying - 25.8 percent (the share of their total number reached 3.3 percent), electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning - 21.7 percent (the share of their total number is 0.5 percent) and water supply, sewerage, waste collection and disposal - 12.2 percent (the share of their total number is 0.5 percent).

As of March 1, 2020, the number of enterprises and organizations in the construction sector amounted to 37,200 units and increased by 20.6 percent compared to the same period of 2019. The main factor of growth in the number of construction enterprises and organizations was the increase in specialized works - by 20.7 percent (60.8 percent of their total number), in the construction of civil facilities - by 11.8 percent (8.5 percent of their total number), in the construction of buildings and structures - by 23 percent (30.7 percent of their total number).

The number of enterprises and organizations in the trade sector stood at 106,800, which shows 131.5-percent increase compared to the same period of 2019.

The main factor of growth in the number of trade enterprises and organizations was retail trade (except for trade in cars and motorcycles), which increased by 30.7 percent (the share of their total number is 62 percent), wholesale trade (except for trade in cars and motorcycles), which increased by 33.2 percent (the share of their total number is 30 percent), wholesale and retail trade and repair of cars and motorcycles that increased by 31.7 percent compared to the previous year (the share of their total number is eight percent).

As of March 1, 2020, the number of enterprises and organizations in the field of housing and catering services amounted to 26,600 units and increased by 25.5 percent compared to the same period last year.

The main factor behind the increase in the number of enterprises and organizations in the area of general living and catering services is the provision of food and drinks - by 123.3 percent (90.7 percent of the total), and housing services - by 151.5 percent (9.3 percent of the total).

The number of enterprises and organizations in the field of information and communication made up 8,200 units and increased by 114.2 percent compared to the same period of 2019.

In March 2020, 494 units of enterprises with participation of foreign capital have been created in Uzbekistan.

Uzbekistan supports the creation of a full-fledged free trade zone within the CIS, based on the principles that do not undermine the current trade regime. This, in turn, is an important factor in ensuring sustainable socio-economic development of the CIS.

The largest number of operating enterprises with foreign capital reached 6,355 (59 percent of the total) in Tashkent city, 1,193 in Tashkent region (11.1 percent), and 521 in Samarkand region (4.8 percent).
