So far, the State Seed Fund operating in Azerbaijan has developed a plan to open specialized stores under TOXUMART brand to support farmers in the purchase of seeds, a source in the State Seed Fund told Trend.
“Since the beginning of the year, the State Seed Fund has opened two such stores in the districts of the country,” the source said.
“The stores opened in Barda and Sabirabad districts during the reporting period,” the source said. “Another store is planned to be opened in Shamkir in the coming months while in several western districts of Azerbaijan till late 2020.”
"Presently, such stores operate in Khachmaz, Zagatala and Jalilabad districts,” the source added. “The stores sell various seeds and the related products for them. This is beneficial for farmers to be able to buy various seeds at any time.”
“These stores sell seeds of wheat, potato, imported by the Fund, as well as hybrid seeds of tomato, cucumber, watermelon and corn purchased from importers,” the source said.
The State Seed Fund was established under the Azerbaijani Ministry of Agriculture upon Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev’s order due to the country’s great need for new high-yielding and drought-resistant types of seeds and in general to strengthen the Azerbaijani food security.
