Iran continues trade with Turkey via railway

BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 14

As many as 1,657 wagons transported cargo by railway among Iran and Turkey over the past month, Spokesman for Iran's Customs Administration (IRICA) Rouhollah Latifi said on April 13, Trend reports with reference to Mehr news agency.

According to Latifi, 40,300 tons of products were imported from Turkey to Iran by 1,088 wagons.

Latifi added that 13,500 tons of products were exported from Iran to Turkey via 569 wagons.

The official said that the main exported products were polyethylene, urea, watermelon, zinc ingots and paraffin.

"Bananas, zinc soil, fibers, paper dough, paper and tobacco were among products mainly imported from Turkey to Iran," he said.

Latifi said that at present, trade among Iran and Turkey is carried out only by railway. In rare cases, medical supplies are imported through the Sari Su border market.

The official added that other border customs have been closed due the coronavirus.

According to reports of IRICA, some $5 billion worth of products were exported from Iran to Turkey in the last Iranian year (from March 21, 2019 to March 20, 2020), and about $4.9 billion worth of products were imported from Turkey to Iran.
