The production of steel products increased by 27 percent in Khuzestan province (southwestern Iran) in the last Iranian year (from March 21, 2019 to March 20, 2020) compared to the preceding year (from March 21, 2018 to March 21, 2019), said Amir Hossein Nazari, head of the Khuzestan Industries, Mine and Trade Organization, Trend reports citing the organization’s website.

According to Nazari, last year, the province produced more than 2.5 million tons of steel.

Nazari added that at present, the production capacity of steel producers in Khuzestan province is 6.47 million tons per year.

The official said that last year's largest production accounted for Iran National Steel Industrial Group, South Rouhina Steel Complex and Khouzestan Oxin Steel Company.

Nazari said that the province experienced a number of problems last year, including floods, rising prices for crude steel, declining liquidity, rising energy prices, and the spread of the coronavirus at the end of the year.

"Taking into account these problems, the Khuzestan Industries, Mine and Trade Organization has taken a number of steps to increase liquidity and eliminate financial problems," he said.
