Cars to be provided with dual fuel in Iran

About 1.46 million cars will be provided with dual fuel (gasoline and gas) in the first stage of dual fuel supply in Iran, Director of CNG Project at National Iranian Oil Products Distribution Company (NIOPDC) Hamid Ghasemi Dehcheshmeh said, Trend reports citing the company's website.

According to Ghasemi Dehcheshmeh, by providing the cars with dual fuel, 12 million liters of gasoline per day will be saved.

Ghasemi Dehcheshmeh added that it is planned to spend $570 million for the implementation of the initial stage and in this regard, agreements have been signed with Tejarat and Mellat banks of Iran.

"The plan to provide cars with free dual fuel will be implemented within 14 months," he said.

The official said that the gas stations in Iran have the capacity to fill 40 million liters of CNG gas per day for the cars.

Ghasemi Dehcheshmeh said that with the provision of cars with dual fuel in Iran, daily consumption is projected to increase from about 21 million cubic meters to 30 million cubic meters.

On Nov. 15, 2019, the price of gasoline sold on quota increased from 10,000 rials (23 cents) to 15,000 rials (35 cents) and the price of gasoline sold free from the quota increased to 30,000 rials (71 cents) in Iran.

In mid-November 2019, the country consumed 95-96 million liters of gasoline per day. Following the price increase, consumption decreased by 20 million liters to 75 million liters. On April 4, 2020, gasoline consumption decreased by 55 million liters per day.
