Spring field work has been completed in Kazakhstan’s Shymkent city, Aktobe and Atyrau regions, Trend reports with reference to the press office of Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Agriculture.

Sowing in two more Kazakh regions is nearing completion.

The data as of Jun. 1, 2020 said that the grain and leguminous crops were sown by 91 percent (13.3 million hectares), oilseeds by 90 percent (2.7 million), melons and potatoes by 89.5 percent (422,300), sugar beets by 93.2 percent (20,500).

Earlier, Kazakh farmers completed sowing cotton and perennial grasses. Moreover, these crops were seeded, surpassing the initial forecasts. Cotton was planted on 125,000 hectares (114 percent), fodder crops on 401,000 hectares (138.9 percent).

The ministry noted that if the sowing pace will be maintained, spring field work in Kazakhstan will be fully completed within a few days.

A total of 22.5 million ha of land were allocated for sowing this year in Kazakhstan, which is 238,000 more than in 2019. At the same time, special attention was paid to the diversification of the structure of sown areas in favor of highly profitable crops and crops for import substitution.

Areas for oilseeds were increased by 122,200 ha, for vegetables by 10,000 ha, for melons by 1,500 ha, for potatoes by 7,800 ha, for fodder crops by 308,600 ha, for sugar beets by 2,400 ha. All of this will allow to provide local market with agriculture goods and increase the volume of raw materials for processing ventures.
