Iran's Plan & Budget Organization talks unemployment rate in country

Iran's unemployment rate reduced from 12.3 percent to 10.7 percent last Iranian year (began March 21, 2019), said the head of the country's Plan and Budget Organization.

"The implemented measures led to decline of unemployment rate and helped to improve production leap; the unemployment decreased by 1.4 percent last Iranian year compared to the preceding year," said Mohammad Bagher Nobakht, Trend reports citing IRNA.

"The number of employed population has increased from 23.7 million in 2018 to 24.2 million people in 2019," he added. "The number of unemployed reduced from 3.2 million people to 2.8 million, but more efforts shall be made to create more job opportunities."

Nobakht went on to say that specific plans have been drafted for improving employment conditions the in country's provinces in the current Iranian year (began March 20, 2020) and that 25 percent of resources has been assigned for this purpose.

"The Plan and Budget Organization is ready to discuss these issues during meetings with MPs and experts," he noted.

Recently, Iran has faced rise of unemployment rate due to closure of businesses amid coronavirus spread, and many people have applied for unemployment insurance.

The government has announced it would provide 10 million rial (about $238) loan without interest to affected individuals, and the money will be deducted from their monthly subsides later. The citizens are also allowed to sell their Justice Shares at the stock exchange to obtain additional income.
