Iran exported 13,600 tons of fig worth $47 million in the last Iranian year (March 21, 2019 to March 20, 2020), said Head of the Tropical and Semi-tropical Fruits Office of Iran's Ministry Agriculture Jihad Zahra Jalili Moghaddam, Trend reports citing the ministry’s official website.
According to Jalili Moghaddam, the quality and production in accordance with international standards have resulted in an increase in exports of this product.
Jalili Moghaddam emphasized that a program should be set up to identify and eliminate potential problems in order to increase exports, and so on.
“According to official statistics, fig production in Iran is more than 104,000 tons per year,” she said.
The official added that about 40,000 hectares out of 59,000 hectares belong to dry-farming land.
Iran exported about 7.1 million tons of agricultural and food products worth $5.82 billion in the last Iranian year (from March 21, 2019 to March 20, 2020). At the same time, 6.94 million tons of food and agricultural products worth $6.39 billion were imported.
