BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 14

By Ilkin Seyfaddini - Trend:

Cooperation of Crown Agents with Uzbekistan started in the early 1990s, when the UK based company opened a representative office in the country to implement a number of projects funded by international donor organizations, Regional Manager (Central Asia) of the Crown Agents, Larisa Kokareva told Trend in an interview.

According to her, a couple of years ago, the company implemented a project to Support the Creation of Sustainable Procurement Capacity Building in Uzbekistan.

“The main objective of the project was a creation of a sustainable public procurement capacity building mechanism to achieve better efficiency in strengthening procurement capacity under the World Bank financed operations in Uzbekistan and to support the government’s future efforts to create an institutionalized and sustainable capacity building mechanism for the professionalization of the country public procurement," Kokareva said.

Regional Manager of the company added that Crown Agents is currently implementing the grant project within this program, as the Official Procurement Agent for the Economic Social Development Program (ESDP) funded by the Government of Japan.

“Foremost, these projects bring benefits to Uzbekistan. New roads will appear and old ones will be repaired in all regions of the country. Also, increasing the capacity in the field of public procurement will allow rational use of budget funds and reduce the cost of public procurement," Kokareva stated.
