Hotel business, food sector of Uzbekistan suffer most due to COVID–19

Center for Economic Research and Reforms of Uzbekistan (CERR) with the support of the United Nations Development Program in Uzbekistan (UNDP) conducted a survey of businesses on the impact of the pandemic and the preventive measures introduced by the government on the activities of small and medium-sized enterprises in June 2020, Trend reports citing CERR.

Among the sectors of the economy, the most affected were hotel business and food sector.

The least affected sector is agriculture, forestry and fisheries. Demand for agricultural products has remained at the same level, the revenues have not declined.

The survey showed that the vast majority of respondents (78 percent) indicated that their organization continued to conduct business.

The highest percentage of organizations that stopped their business activities during quarantine was in Tashkent (31 percent) and the Uzbekistan's Karakalpakstan Autonomous Republic (31 percent). In all sectors, the percentage of entrepreneurs who reported continuing to operate against the backdrop of the pandemic is at least 65 percent, with the exception of housing and nutrition services (30 percent).

The survey showed that only 6.5 percent of entrepreneurs stated that their company does not need support.
