Iran will offer an 80 percent discount on Ro-Ro ships (Roll-On Roll-Off ships) in the Caspian Sea for a year, Deputy Chairman of the Ports and Maritime Organization of Iran (PMO) Farhad Montasar Koohsari said, Trend reports citing PMO’s official website.
The deputy chairman added that the capacities have been created in Iranian ports for Ro-Ro ships to dock.
"The Iranian Ports and Maritime Organization is taking this step to move trucks from Iranian highways and land border checkpoints to ports, as well as to transport trucks (empty and full) directly from the northern ports of Iran to the Caspian littoral states," he said.
The deputy chairman stressed that shipping companies operating in the Caspian Sea are expected to take advantage of this opportunity by creating shipping lines.
The Iranian Ports and Maritime Organization is working to create multi-purpose transport, create access to international waters from Central Asia via Iran, to increase the transit of oil and other products, as well as the use of rail transport in this direction.
