Iran's Ministry of Roads and Urban Development is expected to launch the Tehran – Karaj freeway by the end of autumn, said the Deputy Minister of Roads and Urban Development Kheyrollah Khademi, Trend reports via Mehr news agency.
"The Tehran – Karaj freeway that is located in southern part of Tehran is a mega project that has been progressing, and should be launched by the end of autumn," he said.
"The 160-km freeway will have six lanes and should help reduce traffic flow from Tehran to Alborz," said the official.
He also mentioned that the private sector of Iran is involved in the project as well, in the field of construction.
Khademi said the government's priority is to complete nine freeways in the current Iranian year (started March 20,2020) and the next Iranian year (starts March 21,2021).
"These nine projects would increase the country's road capacity by 25 percent," he said.
