Georgia reveals volume of processed grape by regions

Some 232,000 tons of grapes have been processed in the Georgian Kakheti region as of October 2, but the process still continues until mid-October, Trend reports via the National Statistics Office of Georgia (Geostat).

Some 293,800 tons were processed in 2019 in Georgia, while the number was 259,900 tonnes in 2018, says the data from the Geostat.

About 5,000-6,000 tons of grapes are processed daily in Kakheti this grape harvest season, says the National Wine Agency of Georgia.

Out of the processed grapes, 158,000 tons were of the Rkatsiteli variety, 61,400 tons were Saperavi, while 4,000 tons were Kakhuri Mtsvane.

Some 23,000 winegrowers handed over grapes to wineries in Kakheti, whose income reached 242 million lari ($75.7 million).

The number of gathered grapes in Kakheti regions are distributed as follows: Gurjaani – 70,000 tons, Kvareli – 56,000 tons, Telavi – 36,700 tons, Sighnaghi – 20,000 tons, Lagodekhi – 16,000 tons, Sagarejo – 12,000 tons, Akhmeta – 10,000 tons, Dedoplistskaro – 7,300 tons.

The grapes have been processed by 180 wine companies, says the agency.
