Iran has increased the production capacity of thermal power plants by lifting production limits for old steam units, said the Managing Director of Thermal Power Plant Holding Company Esmail Namazi.
"The company has implemented upgrading projects since 2016 to improve production capacity of gas units in power plants that has reached 1,565 megawatt in the current Iranian year (started March 20,2020)," said Namazi, Trend reports citing IRNA.
"The thermal power plants' production capacity has reached 2,000 megawatt after renovation plans that were done, thanks to $101 million worth of investments," he said.
"Meanwhile, a construction of a new power plant with 1,000 megawatt production capacity requires around $3.5 billion worth of investment," he added.
"The location of the power plant from the sea level could reduce the function and production of steam, gas or combined cycle turbines, so by installing air conditioners near turbines the production capacity would increase," Namazi said.
"In recent years power plants have increased production by adding air conditioners to compensate the high power consumption in summer," he said.
