The current week in Azerbaijan began with the signing of a trilateral memorandum of understanding in the field of agriculture, Trend reports with reference to the Ministry of Agriculture of Azerbaijan.
According to the ministry, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Agency for Agricultural Services under the Ministry of Agriculture of Azerbaijan, the Azerbaijan State Agrarian University and the Public Association of Producers and Importers of Fertilizers of Azerbaijan.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, chief of staff of the Ministry of Agriculture Rafail Guliyev said that the signing of this document is an important step in expanding public-private partnership in the agricultural sector.
He said that the Memorandum of Understanding was signed to ensure the correct and timely use of production capacity to increase production in the country, organize phytosanitary measures and coordinate services, and train qualified personnel to ensure plant health and protection, increase productivity.
Also, this week, the head of the representative office of the Russian Export Center Nuri Guliyev said that wheat remains the main export item of Russian agricultural products in 2020 to Azerbaijan, as before.
In addition, Minister of Economy Mikail Jabbarov, at a meeting with Latvian Ambassador to Azerbaijan Dainis Garanchs, said that Azerbaijan considers it important to increase mutual investments with Latvia in the post-pandemic period, as well as expand opportunities for cooperation in the field of agriculture.
"Three types of locusts, Moroccan, Italian and Asian, are widespread in Azerbaijan (one of the most dangerous pests of agricultural crops). From April through July 2020, chemical control of larvae and adults of locusts was carried out on 33,000 hectares in different regions of the country," said the Ministry of Agriculture of Azerbaijan.
Specialists from the local branches of the Republican Center for Plant Protection of the Agency for Agricultural Services began autumn observations to identify pests in order to prepare data on the scope of work in the framework of locust control for the next year, as well as the effective organization of chemical control.
In addition, according to the data of Agro-Industrial complex, 3.2 million tons of dry tobacco have been produced in the Sheki region since the beginning of the production period.
It is reported that this year, tobacco was planted in Sheki region on 1108 hectares. Harvesting of tobacco is currently underway.
