Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan to implement projects in water management

Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan have stressed the need to implement joint projects with the active participation of water management sectors of the two countries, Trend reports with reference to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.

This was stated during a videoconference between representatives of water management institutions of Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.

The parties also noted the need to further expand cooperation in the field of water management, in particular to resolve the water situation in the Amu Darya region, as well as the issues of crop irrigation in 2021.

In addition, the parties discussed future coordination work on the collection and implementation of modern digital technologies in the economical use of water resources.

The trade turnover between Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan amounted to $323.6 million from January through September of 2020.

In the reporting period, Uzbekistan imported Turkmen-made products for a total of $225.9 million.

Meanwhile, the volume of exports from Uzbekistan to Turkmenistan was $97.8 million from January through September of this year.

As earlier Uzbek MFA told Trend, several events and projects in the field of railway and road cargo transportation between Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan are planned to be held and implemented in the coming years.

The MFA noted that the new projects will serve to further enhance bilateral cooperation.
"It is planned to carry out work on the modernization of roads and railways, further implementation of the project to create China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan-Turkmenistan transport route, " said the ministry.
