British American Tobacco in Uzbekistan (UZBAT) JV shipped the first batch of nicotine packs to Belarus worth $120,000, Trend reports with reference to the UZBAT.

Additional export deliveries of nicotine packs for another $100,000 are planned by the end of 2020.

In August 2020, UZBAT announced the opening of a workshop for packaging tobacco-free nicotine snus (nicotine packets without tobacco) at the Samarkand Cigarette Factory.

This year, UZBAT invested $1 million in a shop for the packaging of tobacco-free nicotine packs, purchasing three packaging machines, several dozen units of other equipment, special production furniture and accessories, as well as technical preparation of the premises for increased sanitary and hygienic requirements.

Even before the opening of the workshop, it was planned not only to supply nicotine bags to the domestic market of Uzbekistan but also to export them to those countries where they are legally in circulation since 2019.

British American Tobacco has been operating in the Uzbek market since 1994 and employs over 1,000 employees. The volume of investments of British American Tobacco in the economy of Uzbekistan exceeded $400 million.

Currently, UZBAT exports finished cigarette products to Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Georgia, and Mongolia. Fermented raw tobacco that has undergone post-harvest processing at a fermentation plant in Urgut is exported to Russia and Ukraine, filter sticks - to BAT factories in Turkey and Ukraine, and nicotine bags are exported to Belarus.
