Export of fish and seafood increases in Azerbaijan

Azerbaijan increased the export of fish and crustaceans, molluscs and other aquatic animals from January through October 2020, Trend reports with reference to the statistics bulletin of the Azerbaijani State Customs Committee.

Azerbaijan exported fish, crustaceans, molluscs and other aquatic animals worth $884,000 to foreign markets from January through October 2020.

"The export almost doubled compared to the same period of last year," the bulletin says.

During the reporting period, Azerbaijan imported fish and other seafood worth $16.4 million.

The annual consumption of seafood per capita in Azerbaijan is only 2.5 kilograms, while on average in the world this figure reaches 20.3 kilograms.

Currently, Azerbaijan Fish Farm is implementing several projects aimed at the development of aquaculture, including the fishing industry.

These projects cover various districts of Azerbaijan and envisage the breeding of 1,000 tons (portion and fillet) of rainbow trout, the production of 850 tons of sturgeon fish and 10 tons of black caviar by the end of 2020.
