Scottish dev’t agency eyes establishing co-op with companies in Uzbekistan’s Karakalpakstan

Uzbekistan and representatives of the Scottish Development International (SDI) agency agreed on further interaction between the parties to establish active interaction between the companies of the Karakalpakstan Republic in Uzbekistan and Scotland, Trend reports citing the Embassy of Uzbekistan in the UK.

The Embassy of Uzbekistan in the UK together with the Council of Ministers of the Karakalpakstan Republic in Uzbekistan held a presentation of the investment and trade potential of the region and promising export products manufactured in the region for representatives of the SDI agency.

Special attention was paid to the establishment of investment cooperation in such areas as pharmaceuticals, production of finished textile products, processing of agricultural products, production of polymers and plastic products, building materials, licorice root.

The British side informed about the potential of interaction in such sectors of the economy traditionally developed for Scotland as agriculture and forestry, fishing, food production, leather and fur products.

Established in 1991, SDI is the international arm of the Scottish Government and Scotland's enterprise agencies, Scottish Enterprise and Highlands and Islands Enterprise. The main activity of the Scottish agency is to support international relations and the internationalization of Scottish business, along with economic development and the promotion of entrepreneurship.
