A total of 2.6 million tons of rice were produced in Iran since the beginning of the current Iranian year (March 20, 2020), Director General of the Ministry of Agriculture Jihad of Iran’s Grains and Essential Goods Department Faramak Aziz Karimi told IRIB, Trend reports.
The director general noted that this amount of rice was produced from paddy planted on 800,000 hectares of land.
Aziz Karimi added that Iran's annual rice consumption is about 3 million tons. Thus, 85 percent of Iran's rice demand will be met by domestic production. And in result, the imports of rice will decrease.
“The paddy harvesting on about 690,000 hectares of land in Iran have been implemented with machinery in the current Iranian year. The paddy harvesting with machinery increased by 10 percent compared to last Iranian year,” he said.
