Georgia sees significant increase in apple export

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Dec.28

Some 8,000 tons of apples were exported from Georgia in the amount of $3.4 million from August 1 through December 27, 2020, Trend reports via the Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture.

The export volume of apples for this period is 14 times higher than the export volume for the same period of 2019, and the export value increased by $3.1 million.

According to the ministry, 7,600 tons of apples were exported from Georgia to the Russian Federation. In addition to the Russian Federation, exports were also carried out to Kazakhstan, Hungary, Turkmenistan, Singapore, and Hong Kong.

State co-financing amounted to more than 9 million lari (about $3 million).

To facilitate the export of fruits, the necessary documentation is prepared and issued in a "single window" mode. Representatives of phytosanitary and customs services are involved in the process.

A working group has been created in the ministry, which is actively working in the field of searching and collecting information, systematizing, connecting farmers and distributors.
