Agricultural lands in Iran to be equipped with modern irrigation systems

According to the plan, 200,000 hectares of land in Iran are to be equipped with modern irrigation systems, Executor of the modern irrigation systems project of Ministry Agriculture Jihad of Iran, Abbas Zare said, Trend reports citing the ministry.

Zare stressed that so far, 80,000 hectares of land in Iran have been equipped with a modern irrigation system within the plan.

“Work is underway to equip 120,000 hectares of land with new irrigation systems and the areas will be equipped with modern irrigation systems until June 22,” he added.

The official stressed that a total of 2.4 million hectares of land in Iran have been equipped with modern irrigation systems, so far.

Zare said that according to researches, by equipping the areas with modern irrigation systems, the production of planting and garden products will increase a minimum of 30 percent, irrigation efficiency - by an average of 44 percent, and the sowing of seeds and various fertilizers will reduce by 30 percent.

Iran's Ministry of Agriculture Jihad prefers micro-irrigation and drip irrigation methods in the modern irrigation system.

Iran has produced more than 120 million tons of agricultural products since the beginning of the current Iranian year (March 20, 2020). This figure was 123 million tons in the last Iranian year (from March 21, 2019, to March 20, 2020).
