Russia’s Roscosmos, Kazakhstan agree to create Earth remote sensing satellite constellation

Russia’s Roscosmos state corporation and Kazakhstan have agreed to implement an investment project to create Earth remote sensing satellite constellation of the medium resolution, consisting of three spacecraft, Trend reports with reference to Roscosmos.

The agreement was reached on January 27, 2021, during the second meeting of the Interstate Council on Outer Space, which is the body of sectoral cooperation of the CIS member-states, which operates within its powers and is accountable to the Council of CIS Heads of Government.

Following the meeting, the parties approved the work plan of the Council for 2021 and the relevant decisions on the agenda issues were made. The bilateral documents on joint projects between Russia and Kazakhstan were also among the signed documents.

Thus, the parties agreed to implement an investment project to create the Earth remote sensing satellite constellation of the medium resolution, consisting of three spacecraft, and to digitize the sectors of the economy of Kazakhstan based on the use of data from the Earth remote sensing space system, geoinformation technologies, and satellite navigation.
