Production of agricultural products in Iran's Khuzestan Province increases

The production of agricultural products in Khuzestan Province of Iran has increased by 3.5 million tons with the implementation of the 550,000-hectare plan, Iranian Minister of Agriculture Jihad Kazem Khavazi said in a meeting with the governor of the Khuzestan Province, Trend reports citing ministry.

The minister stressed that before the implementation of this plan, 1.7 million tons of agricultural products were produced in Khuzestan Province. This figure has reached 5.2 million tons as of now.

Khavazi added that the planting density has increased by minimum 30 percent with the implementation of this plan. So, other crops can be grown at any period of the planting season. At the same time, 625 million cubic meters of water are saved a year.

“A total of 50 trillion rials (about $1.19 billion) was spent on the 550,000-hectare plan in agricultural sector, and these funds were obtained by growing rice twice,” he said.

The minister noted that 126,000 hectares of agricultural land in Khuzestan Province ere equipped with a modern irrigation system. It is planned to be equipped 4,000 hectares of land in the province with a modern irrigation system in the current Iranian year (from March 20, 2020 to March 21, 2021).
