Iran waits for US action over nuclear deal

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Feb.2

Trend:

Iran is waiting for the actions of the US towards the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), which means lifting the sanctions against Iran, said the country's Foreign Ministry Spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh, Trend reports via IRNA.

"Sanctions that were re-imposed during Donald Trump's presidency and the US violations of the 2231 resolution should be effectively lifted, which means we should witness the effects from the sanctions being lifted. It's not enough just to sign a paper," said the official.

"The Iranian nation must have access to its assets, oil should be easily exported, and oil revenues should be returned to the country," Khatibzadeh said.

"The US would not automatically return to the JCPOA by a signature, they have withdrawn from the deal by one signature, but they can't return by one signature," he said.

"The US is considered a violator of its JCPOA commitments and the 2231 resolution until it would fully comply to its commitments, without any preconditions," Khatibzadeh said.

"The Biden administration should compensate for the wrong path taken by the former administration, the positive or vague comments are not important for us, Biden's actions are what is important for us and our coming actions," Khatibzadeh said.

He went on to say that 'it is completely clear that bilateral negotiation with the US is not necessary, the US should return to its commitments and that would not require bilateral negotiations.

"Any negotiations about the JCPOA could be done within a joint commission," he said.
