Georgia sees decrease in external merchandise trade

The external merchandise trade (excluding non-declared trade) of Georgia amounted to $762.5 million in January 2021, which is 16.5 percent lower in comparison to the same month of 2020, Trend reports via the National Statistics Office reports (Geostat).

The exports equaled $224.4 million (16.2 percent lower), while the imports stood at $538.1 million (16.6 percent lower).

The negative trade balance was $313.6 million in January 2021 and its share in external trade turnover constituted 41.1 percent.

In January 2021, the share of the top ten trading partners in the total external trade turnover of Georgia amounted to 76.3 percent. The top trading partners were China ($126.5 million), Turkey ($114.3 million), and Azerbaijan ($86.2 million).

In the reporting period, the share of the top ten trading partners by exports in the total exports of Georgia amounted to 80.8 percent. The top partners were Azerbaijan ($34.4 million), Bulgaria ($27 million), and China ($26.9 million).

In January 2021, the share of the top ten trading partners by imports in the total imports of Georgia amounted to 75.9 percent. The top partners were China ($99.6 million), Turkey ($92.9 million), and Russia ($55.6 million).
