The number of registered cars in Kazakhstan amounted to 79,474 vehicles during January 2021, which is 1.8 percent less than during the same period of 2020, Trend reports with reference to Kazakhstan’s Statistics Committee.

As of Feb. 1, 2021, the total number of passenger cars registered in Kazakhstan amounted to 3.8 million.

The committee noted that 86 percent of registered cars work on gasoline. Some 11.5 percent of the cars operate on mixed fuel, 2.4 percent on diesel fuel, and 0.1 percent on LPG.

The number of registered car accidents amounted to 876 cases over the course of the month, which is 3.5 percent less than during the same period of 2020. Some 1,297 people were injured in these accidents.

As of Feb. 1, 2021, insurance companies made 5,721 payments worth 2.5 billion tenge (approximately $5.9 million) on Compulsory Civil Liability Insurance of Vehicle Owners.

By a decree of Kazakhstan's President Kassym Jomart Tokayev, as a result of the spreading coronavirus pandemic, a quarantine regime has been introduced in a number of Kazakh cities and regions, thus restricting transportation and use of personal vehicles.

Due to the introduced restrictions, the number of car accidents has significantly decreased all across the country.
