Azerbaijan imported tobacco and its products worth over $14.4 million from foreign countries in the first 2 months of 2021, Trend reports referring to the country’s State Customs Committee (SCC).
According to the SCC, the figure increased by 34 percent compared to the same period of last year.
The value of Azerbaijan’s export of tobacco and its products from January through February of this year made up $288,000, which is a drop by 2 times compared to the same period of 2020, said the committee.
Meanwhile, the value of production of alcoholic, non-alcoholic beverages and tobacco products in the country totaled 137.8 million manat ($81 million). In the reporting period, a 2.1-fold increase was recorded in the production of tobacco products.
Azerbaijan's foreign trade turnover amounted to nearly $4.4 billion in the first two months of this year, which is 12.6 percent less compared to the same period of 2020.
In the structure of foreign trade turnover, exports accounted for over $2.7 billion, showing a 14.2 percent decrease in exports on an annualized basis. The share of exports for the year decreased by 1.16 percentage points to 63.36 percent of the total volume of foreign trade turnover.
The balance of foreign trade turnover on an annualized basis decreased by 19.6 percent, but remained positive, amounting to $1.17 billion.
