Georgia sees increase in subsistence minimum

Georgia’s subsistence minimum increased in March 2020, Trend reports via the National Statistics Office (Geostat).

The living minimum wage for working-age men made 197.2 lari ($57.77) in February but increased by 3.80 lari ($1.11) to 201 lari ($58.88) in March.

The subsistence minimum for average household increased by 3.4 lari ($1) compared to February and stood at 178.1 lari ($52.18).

Georgia’s minimum subsistence level increased by 1.60 lari (48 cents) and totaled 197.2 lari ($59.50) in February 2021 compared to the previous month. The subsistence minimum of average consumer grew by 1.5 lari (45 cents) and amounted to 174.7 lari ($52.71), Geostat noted.

The National Statistics Office calculates the value of the subsistence minimum on the basis of the minimum cost of items in the food basket .

The minimum food basket contains 40 different products such as bread, cereals, meat, dairy products, vegetables, and confectionery.
