BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 23

Trend:

The Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) and the Islamic Organization for Food Security (IOFS) have reached a Memorandum of Understanding, Trend reports citing the Kazakh media.

The memorandum defines the main directions and measures for the development of cooperation between the EEC and the IOFS, whose activities are aimed at promoting the development of agriculture and increasing food security in the states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).

The cooperation of the EEC with the IOFS will make it possible to expand the relevant information base on the nature and prospects of trade and economic cooperation between the countries of the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) and the Islamic world, to use the experience accumulated by the parties to more effectively ensure food security.

The deepening of interaction is of particular importance in the context of the coronavirus pandemic. The issues of food security, uninterrupted supplies of agricultural products and foodstuffs showed the need to take prompt decisions and joint efforts to eliminate emerging problems.

The memorandum lays the foundations for fruitful and long-term cooperation. One of the main directions of our joint work will be to promote sustainable agricultural development and balanced development of production and markets for agricultural products and food.
