Georgia unveils import, export volumes of citrus fruits

Georgia exported 774.5 tons of lemon and lime in the amount of $629,300 from January through July 2021, Trend reports with reference to the National Statistical Office of Georgia (Geostat).

The export figures for lemon and lime compared to the same period of last year have almost halved (7 months of 2020 - $1.1 million, 1,511.6 tons).

Export markets include Armenia ($584,200, 745.4 tons), Germany ($28,800, 4.8 tons), Turkey ($14,400, 22.2 tons) and Russia ($1,700, 2 tons). Small quantities of lemon and lime were exported to Hong Kong and the United Arab Emirates.

Note that during the reporting period, Georgia purchased 2,364.4 tons of lemons and limes for $999,200.

According to official statistics, the volume of imported products decreased by a total of 83.1 tons, but the cost of purchasing lemons and limes was 26.7 percent less than in the same period last year (7 months of 2020 - $1.4 million, 2,448.5 tons).

The main importing countries of lemon and lime from January through July:

1. Turkey - $371,600, 1,738.2 tons;
2. Netherlands - $307,500, 109.3 tons;
3. Egypt - $257,000, 403.3 tons;
4. South Africa - $43,600, 89.5 tons;
5. Argentina - $19,300, 24 tons.
