A total of 1.3 million tons of dates were harvested in Iran in the current Iranian year (March 21, 2021 through March 20, 2022), Director-General of Agriculture Ministry’s Tropical and Subtropical Fruit Bureau Zahra Jalili Moqaddam told IANA, Trend reports.
The director general stressed that Iran ranks third in the world on the cultivation of dates.
She added also that Iran exported 338,000 tons of dates worth $296 million over the last Iranian year (March 20, 2020 through March 20, 2021).
Jalili Moqaddam noted that the Iranian Ministry of Agriculture Jihad supports the establishment of dates export terminals in the country. In addition, a number of steps will be taken to hold the sale of dates on the Iran Mercantile Exchange (IME).
According to her, the implementation of selected restoration work in date orchards in the country is in the spotlight. Thus, conditions will be created for the use of equipment in date orchards.
