BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 14. Iranian Government Trading Corporation (GTC) is expected to purchase more than 1 million tons of wheat from farmers under a guarantee in the Khuzestan Province (south-western Iran), during the current Iranian year (March 21, 2021 through March 20, 2022), the Minister of Agriculture Jihad of Iran Javad Sadatinejad told reporters, Trend reports citing IRIB.

According to Sadatinejad, over 10,000 tons of wheat have been purchased from farmers under a guarantee in the province from the beginning of the current wheat harvesting season in the country (March 24) to April 14.

The minister added that the Khuzestan Province is of great importance for the country in the agricultural sector. In this regard, it is planned to research and solve the province’s problems in this sector.

“Furthermore, the development of greenhouses in Khuzestan Province is in the spotlight. Thus, it is possible to further increase production by creating a 350-hectare greenhouse in this province," he said.

In total, 74,000 tons of wheat have been purchased from farmers under a guarantee in Iran from the beginning of the current wheat harvesting season in Iran (March 24, 2022) to April 13.

In general, 9 million tons of wheat are expected to be purchased in Iran in the current Iranian year (from March 20, 2022, through March 20, 2023). Of this, about 5.5 million tons are expected to be purchased by the GTC.

The price of 1 kg of wheat was set up at 115,000 rials (about $2.74) for the current Iranian year.

A number of products, including wheat, tea, rice, and other products are purchased from farmers by GTC under a guarantee in Iran.
