Iran increases tea exports

BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 3. Iran's dry tea exports increased by 77 percent in value and 68 percent in volume, over the last Iranian year (March 21, 2021 through March 20, 2022), compared to the preceding Iranian year (March 20, 2020 through March 20, 2021), the Spokesman for the Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration (IRICA) Rouhollah Latifi said, Trend reports citing the administration.

According to Latifi, Iran exported 8,300 tons of dry tea worth $8.77 million to the UAE, 2,900 tons worth $3.53 million to Turkey, 2,590 tons worth $3.09 million to Russia, 2,530 tons worth $2.37 million to India, as well as 2,190 tons worth $1.99 million to Iraq in the last Iranian year.

“Iran also exported 1,360 tons of dry tea worth $1.78 million to Turkmenistan, 1,870 tons worth $1.7 million to Uzbekistan, 1,600 tons worth $1.69 million to Tajikistan, as well as 1,000 tons worth $936,000 to Kenya, 647 tons worth $599,000 to Kazakhstan and 496 tons worth $496,000 to Afghanistan for the reporting period,” he added.

The spokesman noted that other countries to which Iran exports tea are Germany, Ukraine, Georgia, Britain, China, the Netherlands, Kuwait, Finland, Switzerland, Canada, Belgium, Azerbaijan and Australia.

In addition, Iran imported about 75,400 tons of tea worth more than $386 million from 10 countries within last Iranian year, the customs official said.

“Thus, Iran imported about 34,300 tons of dry tea worth $168 million from India, 18,300 tons worth $107 million from Sri Lanka, 14,300 tons worth $71.6 million from the UAE and 4,590 tons worth $23.7 million from Turkey, and 1,470 tons worth $5.8 million from Kenya for last Iranian year,” he also pointed out.
