BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 1. Iran’s Government Trading Corporation (GTC) has paid 56 trillion rials (about $1.33 billion) to wheat farmers in the Khuzestan Province (south-western Iran) on June 1, 2022, Director General of the GTC’s branch in Khuzestan Province Omid Jahan Nejadian said, Trend reports citing the corporation’s website.

According to him, a total of 144 trillion rials (about $3.43 billion) has been paid to farmers in the province for purchased wheat from the beginning of the current wheat harvesting season in Iran (March 24, 2022) to June 1. This means about 90 percent of the money for purchased wheat in Khuzestan Province has been paid to farmers.

The director general added that so far, about 1.42 million tons of wheat and rapeseed have been purchased from farmers in the province under a guarantee.

Reportedly, more than 1.33 million tons of wheat have been purchased from farmers in Iran's Khuzestan Province under a guarantee since the beginning of this season.

In general, 9 million tons of wheat are expected to be purchased in Iran in the current Iranian year (from March 20, 2022, through March 20, 2023). Of this, about 5.5 million tons are expected to be purchased by the GTC.

The price of 1 kg of wheat was set at 115,000 rials (about $2.74) for the current Iranian year.

A number of products, including wheat, tea, rice, and other products are purchased from farmers by GTC under a guarantee in Iran.
