BAKU, Azerbaijan, December 28. Overall, 2.34 million tons of rice were harvested in Iran during the current season (July 1 through November 1, 2022), Secretary of the Rice Importers Association Masih Keshavarz told Tasnim News Agency, Trend reports.
According to Keshavarz, 1 million tons of rice were harvested in Mazandaran Province, 700,000 tons in Gilan Province, 240,000 tons in Golestan Province, and 400,000 tons in other provinces of Iran within the mentioned period.
“At present, the price of 1 kg of "Tarom" rice in Iran is about 1.2 million rials (about $28.5), "Fajr" rice - 800,000-850,000 rials (about $19-$20), "Shiroodi" rice - 600,000 rials (about $14), "Neda" rice - 550,000 rials (about $13),” he added.
The secretary emphasized that in the Iranian market, Iranian rice is 2-3 times more expensive than rice imported from other countries. This has made it very difficult for some masses in the country to buy Iranian rice.
Keshavarz also said that in total, 1.2 million tons of rice have been imported into Iran since the beginning of the current Iranian year (March 21, 2022 to December 28, 2022), and another 400,000 tons of rice are expected to be imported.
