BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 22. The value of Iran’s imports from African countries increased by 98 percent, during the first month of the current Iranian year (March 21 through April 20, 2023), compared to the same month in the last year, member of the international and foreign trade committee of the House of Industry, Mine and Trade of Iran, Deputy Chairman of the Iranian-African Businessmen's Club Rouhollah Latifi said on social media, Trend reports.
“Within the 1st month, Iran imported 4,330 tons of goods worth approximately $5.88 million from the African countries,” the official said.
He added that Iran imported goods from 9 out of 54 countries of the African continent during the reporting month.
According to Latifi, Iran mainly imported goods worth $2.54 million from the Republic of South Africa, worth $1.34 million from Congo, worth $879,000 from Ghana, worth $395,000 from Kenya, and worth $354,000 from Tanzania in the first month.
Latifi also pointed out that Iran imported 634,000 tons of food products, including fruit juices, coffee, tea, etc. worth $3.2 million, 498 tons of transformer oil worth $1.34 million, 3,150 tons of manganese worth $991,000, 36 tons of chromium oxide worth 152,000 and so on from African countries during the 1st month.
Iran imported about 92,900 tons of goods worth $95.3 million from African countries over the last Iranian year (March 21, 2022 through March 20, 2023).
Overall, Iran imported 1.83 million tons of goods worth $3.08 billion for the 1st month. The imports decreased by 13 percent in value and 24.8 percent in volume compared to the same month in the last year.
