BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 29. The volume of non-oil exports through Iran’s Astara railway terminal in Gilan Province in the north of the country, increased by 4.5 percent, during the first two months of the current Iranian year (March 21 through May 21, 2023), compared to same period in the last year, Director General of Iran's Northern Railway Department Gholam Hossein Valadi said, Trend reports.
According to Valadi, overall, 41,400 tons of non-oil products were exported through Iran’s Astara railway terminal in 2 months, while the figure stood at 39,600 tons in the same period of the last Iranian year.
Valadi added that citrus fruits, cement, chemicals, ceramics, etc. were the main exported goods via Astara railway terminal for two months.
“In addition, more than 31,400 tons of goods were imported through the Astara railway terminal during 2 months, which is an increase of 72 percent in volume compared to over 18,200 tons in the same period last year. The main imported goods were wood, corn, lentils and so on,” he said.
The director general also pointed out that approximately 47,300 tons of cargo were transited through the mentioned railway terminal within the first two months of the current Iranian year. This is 8,420 tons more than in the same period last year. The main transit goods were wheat, barley, flour, wood and timber.
Iran's Astara railway terminal is located near the border with Azerbaijan.
