Iran records decline in 1Q unemployment rate

BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 8. The unemployment rate in Iran among citizens aged 15 and over decreased by 9.8 percent, during the first 3 months of the current Iranian year (March 21 through June 21, 2023), compared to the same period last year, Trend reports.

As indicated in the date of Statistical Center of Iran (SCI), the number of those unemployed in Iran for 3 months was 2.16 million, which accounted for 9.2 percent of the active society.

The number of unemployed between the ages of 15 and 24 was approximately 552,000, while the number of unemployed between the ages of 18-35 was 1.53 million.

Meanwhile, the number of unemployed people with higher education in the country stood at approximately 883,000 for 3 months, which is a decrease of 7.2 percent compared to the same period in the last Iranian year.

In total, the number of people aged 15 and over in Iran was about 64.3 million within the mentioned period. Of these, about 37.8 million or 58.8 percent was considered inactive for economic activities, while 26.5 million or 41.2 percent - considered active for economic activities.
