BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 23. Iran's agricultural and food products exports increased by 21 percent in value and 2 percent in volume in the first half of the current Iranian year (March 21 through September 22, 2023), compared to the same period last year, said Rouhollah Latifi, an official of the Central Union of Rural and Agricultural Cooperatives of Iran, Trend reports.

The official also said that Iran exported more than 3.5 million tons of agricultural and food products worth about $2.43 billion in six months.

Latifi added that 2.46 million tons of crops (including fruits, vegetables, etc.) worth $1.29 billion were exported in the specified period, showing an increase of 16 percent in value and a decrease of 8 percent in volume compared to the same period last year.

According to him, livestock, dairy products, and fishery products accounted for approximately 425,000 tons of Iran’s total agricultural and food product exports worth $616 million, representing a 37 percent increase in value and 44 percent in volume compared to the same period last year.

“During 6 months, Iran also exported 517,000 tons of food products—sweets, chocolate, etc., worth approximately $437 million. This is an increase of 19 percent in value and 22 percent in volume compared to the same period last year,” Latifi noted.

Overall, Iran exported 67.7 million tons of non-oil products worth over $24.1 billion in the first half of the current Iranian year (March 21 through August 22, 2023). This is an increase of 2.62 percent in value and a decrease of 29 percent in volume compared to the same period last year.

Iran’s non-oil exports do not include crude oil, mazut, and white oil, which are subject to US sanctions that prevent Iran from exporting them freely. Therefore, Iran has been focusing on increasing its non-oil exports to cope with the economic pressure.
