BAKU, Azerbaijan, December 23. Iran’s agricultural and food exports to African countries have grown by 18 percent in value and 34 percent in volume in the first eight months of the current Iranian year (March 21 to November 21, 2023), compared to the same period last year, said Rouhollah Latifi, an official of the Central Union of Rural and Agricultural Cooperatives of Iran, Trend reports.
Latifi said that Iran shipped $28 million worth of agricultural and food products, weighing 41,000 tons to 33 African countries in eight months.
He said that Iran’s agriculture and food exports worth $11 million went to Somalia, $4.9 million to Libya, $4.1 million to Ivory Coast (Côte d’Ivoire), $2.1 million to Kenya and $1.2 million to Algeria.
The official also mentioned that Iran exported 4,150 tons of livestock, fishery and other agricultural products worth $5.5 million in eight months. Other exported products (about 36,900 tons worth $22.5 million) were ready-made food products.
In total, Iran’s non-oil exports reached $32.2 billion in value and more than 90 million tons in volume in the first eight months of the current Iranian year (March 21 to November 21, 2023).
Compared with the same period of the previous Iranian year, the value of non-oil exports dropped by 1.6 percent, while the volume rose by 27 percent.
Iran’s non-oil exports do not include crude oil, mazut, and white oil, which are subject to US sanctions that prevent Iran from exporting them freely. Therefore, Iran has been focusing on increasing its non-oil exports to cope with the economic pressure.
